Arduino microcontrollers are CAN bus networked to collect sensor data throughout the boat. Status reports are automatically posted to a custom web page .
I used CAN bus communication technology because I needed to route power to each sensor, and I wanted to expand my experience with the use of CAN bus networking.
See my section on Arduino SeeedStudio CAN-BUS shield for details on how I programmed the microcontroller to send the CAN messages.
I used an Arduino WiFi shield to post the CAN bus messages to a custom web site. The website itself is used to monitor the boat while I'm on the boat, and away. Robust code was developed for the Arduino WiFi shield to insure it would continuously post the CAN bus information to the custom web site. See my Arduino WiFi shield page for more information.
